How do I change my thoughts
I am always asked “How do I change my thoughts?” or “How do I stop negative thinking?”
And the answer is actually far simpler than most people expect.
When a negative thought arises, you stop it in its tracks.
That’s it.
Not by fighting it.
Not by analysing it for an hour.
Not by judging yourself for having it.
You simply interrupt it.
Most of our suffering does not come from the first thought. It comes from the ten thoughts that follow it. One negative thought appears and instead of pausing, we build a story around it. We gather evidence. We replay old memories. We predict worst case scenarios. Within minutes, a single spark has become a wildfire.
But here’s the truth.
A thought is just a thought.
It is not a prophecy.
It is not a fact.
It is not your identity.
When you notice a negative thought, say to yourself, “Stop.” Not harshly. Not aggressively. Just firmly.
Pause. Breathe. Create a gap.
That gap is power.
In that space you can ask,
Is this true?
Is this helpful?
Is this mine?
Is this coming from fear or from clarity?
You do not need to wrestle every thought to the ground. You simply choose not to feed it. Thoughts gain momentum through attention. What you focus on grows. What you starve weakens.
If you repeatedly interrupt negative spirals, your brain begins to rewire. You are teaching your nervous system and your mind that you are no longer available for self sabotage.
It really is that simple in its simplicity.
Awareness.
Interruption.
Redirection.
Over and over again.
The more you practice this, the more natural it becomes. You move from being controlled by your thoughts to becoming the observer of them.
And that is freedom.
You are not your thoughts. You are the one who chooses which thoughts to believe.
That shift changes everything.
